The Relatives

Videoconference of a Crimean Family 1912-2025

World Premiere: 2026 tbc

Instrumentation: singers & amplified ensemble

Duration: c. 45+ minutes

Through the lens of his own family history, composer Sergej Newski creates a human, quietly defiant portrait of twentieth and twenty‑first century Crimea. The Relatives brings live musicians and singers into conversation using cutting edge AI powered face morphing and projection mapping, with responsive, screen‑based imagery, opening a space where memory, humour and history sits side by side.

Spanning more than a century - from a great grandmother’s early memories to a daughter’s present‑day voice - The Relatives unfolds as a interdimensional Zoom call.

The Relatives explores how people can adapt and thrive (even with a sense of humour) in the face of war, oppression and displacement.
