James Thomas Project Manager: Concerts and Tours [email protected] James oversees all aspects of BCMG’s productions. On a typical work day, he might be planning rehearsal schedules, booking our musicians, contacting publishers, liaising with venues, or trying to source unusual instruments for an upcoming concert! Around concerts, he ensures that all rehearsals and performances run smoothly — in part by making large quantities of strong coffee for our musicians! A brief history Prior to joining the BCMG team, James studied Music (BMus, 2017–20) and Composition (MA, 2020–21) at the University of Sheffield before completing a PhD in instrumental and vocal composition under the supervision of Professor Dorothy Ker. His research centred around notions of time and its multiplicity in a range of musical structures. Beyond composing, James is active as a conductor and directed the university’s New Music Ensemble throughout his PhD. Fun facts James commutes to Birmingham from Sheffield. When he’s not working or composing, he can probably be found hiking (or swimming!) in the Peak District. Best thing about working at BCMG? 'Being surrounded by contemporary music and a whole team of wonderful colleagues that are just as passionate about that as I am!' Manage Cookie Preferences
